CONTEC, a Korean firm, is preparing to revolutionize the space technology industry

CONTEC, a Korean firm aiming to revolutionise the space industry, provides complete solutions for satellite data transmission downstream. The space technology firm, which was founded in 2015, intends to profit from the approaching ‘New Space’ period.

The firm is a spin-off from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), and it provides Space Ground Station Services, Satellite Image Processing and Application Services, as well as a complete ground integration solution. Satellite image analysis and application services are provided by the firm, which uses AI-based detection and change detection technologies.

With its ground stations, CONTEC provides Ground Station (GS) service. It presently provides services to a number of important EO satellites.

Customers may book satellite passes and receive their data through a web-based user interface called CONTEC ONE, which allows for one-click pass reservations. Users can utilise CONTEC’s ground stations registered from any location of the earth’s surface as long as they have a secure internet connection.

CONTEC INSIGHT, CONTEC’s Satellite Imagery (SI) service, is a web-based SI application service. Using satellite pictures, the platform features object recognition and change detection, which can be helpful for observing changes in SMART Cities, monitoring catastrophes, and assisting in the prevention of illegal projects.

Sejong City, Korea’s first ISO-certified smart city, has opened its doors to the public.

CONTEC opened its first office in Korea in 2015, and its second office in Luxembourg in 2019, with a total of 58 engineers. While working at the Jeju tracking station for KARI’s launch vehicle mission, CEO Sunghee Lee, who has 16 years of experience working for KARI in the launch and satellite operating missions, had the idea of launching a GS (Ground Station) in Korea.

The business secured $11 million in Series B funding in August 2021, led by Atinum Investment, with four additional significant VC investors in Korea, including Korean Development Bank, Industrial Banks of Korea, Korean Investment Partners, and Intellian Tech. The money will be utilised to build more ground stations and develop new technologies.

Contec is in revolutionizing the space industry and providing complete solutions for satellite data transmission. So it could be leading the industry soon. All the best wishes to them.
