Guwahati-based Zerund raises Rs 7.8 Cr in seed round

Zerund, a Guwahati-based manufacturer of sustainable bricks, has acquired seed funding of Rs 7.8 crores from a group of key private investors led by Dreamweaver Investments. The investment was made possible by the Gruhas ASPIRE accelerator program, a collaboration between the Gruhas Proptech Fund, the DLF Family Office, and Anthill Ventures.

At a ceremony held on Wednesday at the NEDFi (North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd) Convention Centre in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gruhas Proptech Fund promoters Abhijeet Pai from the Puzzolana Group, Nikhil Kamath, Co-founder of Zerodha, and Rahul Talwar, Director, DLF Family Office gave honor to the Gruhas ASPIRE cohort.

Zerund, founded in 2018 by Assam Engineering College civil engineering classmates David Gogoi, Mousum Talukdar, and Rupam Choudhury, has brick production operations in Guwahati and Pathsala.

The firm makes high-quality, lightweight bricks out of 70% of waste material, including plastic and fly ash. The fly ash is obtained from the Kokrajhar plant of the National Thermal Plant Corporation (NTPC). The extra capital will be used to improve the company’s yearly manufacturing capacity, which now stands at more than 25 lakh bricks, as well as to expand its sales and distribution network beyond Assam to other Indian states in the coming months.

David Gogoi, co-founder, and CEO of Zerund, says, “ We are on track to boost our annual production nine-fold to 2.3 crore bricks in 2026, in line with the expanding demand for sustainable bricks. Our investors in this round comprise experts with an in-depth knowledge of the Proptech (Property-Technology) space. Their support will be critical as we grow beyond our base in Assam and take our homegrown idea to the rest of India and beyond.”

Zerund seems to be a fascinating startup with a motivating turn of events on the wholesale building materials platform. This startup would continue to prosper in the future. Wishing this startup good luck in all its future endeavors.
