OSE raises £250 million to support deeptech spinouts at University of Oxford

Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE), an early-stage venture capital firm, has obtained an additional £250 million to fund deeptech, healthtech, and life science spinouts from the University of Oxford.

It offers startup infrastructure, industry experts, initial funding, and support to businesses based on work inside of the university.

Alexis Dormandy, CEO of Oxford Science Enterprises, said: “We are delighted to successfully complete this new fundraising. Attracting such high-quality new and existing global investors reflects their enthusiasm for the strength of Oxford’s science and our plans to drive positive impact from it.”

International investors, blue chips, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, pension funds, and asset managers all contributed to the capital infusion.

Since its founding in 2015, OSE has invested in more than 80 businesses, resulting in two initial public offerings and five trading exits. With this most recent raise, it now has more than £850 million in financing.

“Our companies are making remarkable breakthroughs from cancer, heart failure and infectious diseases, to climate change, food security and quantum computing,” added Dormandy.

“Over the next few years, we expect these companies will continue to make important progress; with our ongoing efforts, and the support of our shareholders, we look forward to helping them deliver impact and returns.”

The VC had already invested in the £38 million Series A funding round that Oxford Quantum Circuits received earlier this month and the £9.4 million seed round that Salience Labs received for its semiconductor business.

That’s in addition to ORCA Computing, which recently received an order from the Ministry of Defence for one of its quantum computers.

Oxford Science Enterprises is an inspiring venture capital firm that backs innovative companies that have made several extraordinary breakthroughs in different fields. Congratulations on your funding. Best of wishes to the entire team at OSE.
