Mumbai-based spirits maker Allied Blenders and Distillers Limited has announced its first overseas local production arrangement in Malaysia. The move marks an asset-light approach to international expansion for the company, which currently exports to 39 markets.

Mumbai-based spirits company Allied Blenders and Distillers Limited (ABD) announced its first overseas local production arrangement on Monday, entering the Malaysian market through a co-bottling partnership.

Under the agreement, the company will manufacture and distribute Officer’s Choice Blue locally in 750ml, 180ml, and 90ml variants. ABD will collaborate with an established local partner while maintaining control over raw materials, packaging, quality standards, and brand stewardship.

The expansion is structured around an asset-light model, designed to allow market entry with limited capital outlay. ABD currently exports to 39 international markets, stating that it has more than doubled its global reach over the past two years.

Managing Director Amar Sinha stated that the Malaysia initiative reflects a strategy of combining market expansion with capital efficiency, noting that the company intends to scale its portfolio in a measured manner.

ABD indicated that it may introduce additional brands under this framework in Malaysia over time, subject to market response. The company also plans to evaluate similar co-production partnerships in other international markets.

On the markets, the stock closed at ₹610.35 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday, marking a 2.58 per cent increase from its previous close of ₹595. This gives the company a total market capitalisation of approximately ₹17,111 crore.

"Expanding into international markets via an asset-light co-bottling model is a practical strategy for established companies looking to control capital expenditure while testing new geographies. By partnering with local operators while retaining strict control over quality standards and brand stewardship, businesses can scale efficiently with lower financial risk. This approach allows firms to measure local demand accurately before committing significant infrastructure investments." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
