South India-based jewellery major Lalithaa Jewellery Mart has opened its ₹1,700-crore initial public offering, comprising a fresh issue and an offer-for-sale, having already secured over ₹508 crore from prominent anchor investors ahead of the public launch.

NEW DELHI / CHENNAI — Lalithaa Jewellery Mart Ltd has officially launched its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO) to raise ₹1,700 crore, opening for public subscription today within a price band of ₹190 to ₹201 per equity share. The public issue, which will close on Wednesday, comprises a fresh issue amounting to up to ₹1,200 crore alongside an offer-for-sale (OFS) of up to ₹500 crore by the company's promoter, M Kiran Kumar Jain. Investors can bid for a minimum lot size of 74 equity shares and in multiples thereof, marking a significant milestone in the organized retail and jewellery sector of the Indian startup and business ecosystem.

Ahead of the public rollout, the company successfully raised ₹508.20 crore from anchor investors by allocating 2,52,83,581 equity shares at the upper band of ₹201 per share. The anchor book drew participation from marquee global and domestic institutional names, including Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE, Morgan Stanley India Investment Fund, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance, Bajaj Life Insurance, ICICI Prudential Smallcap Fund, and several schemes managed by Bandhan, Samco, and Bank of India. This robust institutional backing underscores deep confidence in the regional retail player's fundamentals and long-term growth trajectory.

Established in 1985, Lalithaa Jewellery has scaled into a prominent regional retail powerhouse, operating 61 stores across 51 cities spanning Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Puducherry. The company maintains an aggressive focus on high-growth Tier II and Tier III markets, where its 45 stores contribute approximately 60% of total revenues. By strategically prioritizing large and medium-format stores, Lalithaa has optimized its revenue per store, touching impressive metrics of ₹410 crore and ₹282 crore in fiscal years 2026 and 2025 respectively. Furthermore, customer-centric gold accumulation and loyalty schemes like 'Dhana Vandhanam' and 'Free-yo-Flexi' have continuously reinforced repeat consumer demand.

Financially, the company exhibits exceptional momentum. Lalithaa Jewellery reported a staggering revenue from operations of ₹25,023.93 crore in FY26, up sharply from ₹16,788.05 crore in FY24. Net profits similarly surged, touching ₹1,009.82 crore in FY26 compared to ₹359.83 crore in FY24, fueled partly by tailwinds in gold prices and expanding operational margins. The proceeds earmarked from the fresh issue—specifically ₹1,014.50 crore—will be deployed toward capital expenditure for setting up new stores across India, with an immediate target to open 10 new branches to deepen its southern footprint, alongside general corporate purposes.

Structured via the book-building route, the offering allocates not more than 50% of the net offer to qualified institutional buyers (QIBs), at least 15% to non-institutional bidders, and a minimum of 35% to retail investors. Anand Rathi Advisors and Equirus Capital are steering the issue as book-running lead managers, with MUFG Intime India acting as the registrar. While analysts note that the company's asset-light expansion and current valuation of 11.1x FY26 P/E align with industry peers, market watchers maintain a watchful eye on potential margin moderations should global bullion prices stabilize in the quarters ahead.

"The public listing of Lalithaa Jewellery highlights the tremendous potential of regional retail powerhouses scaling through organized formats in India's booming consumer market. By focusing deeply on Tier II and Tier III cities across Southern India, the company has successfully captured robust domestic demand, reflected in its impressive top-line growth and stellar institutional backing from leading anchor investors. As traditional retail blends with modern corporate governance, this ₹1,700-crore IPO marks a defining moment for the sector. However, as capital is deployed toward aggressive store expansion, maintaining pricing discipline and managing commodity cycle exposure will be key determinants for sustained long-term shareholder value creation in the public markets." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
