BENGALURU — Luxembourg-based Innovation Platform Capital (iPC) has proposed an investment of ₹83,480 crore in Karnataka, spread across three phases, according to Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil.
The announcement followed discussions between the state minister and a high-level delegation from iPC, led by Gursharan Singh Kundan, Managing Partner and Chairman of iPC Global.
According to an official statement, the proposed venture involves an integrated Bengaluru-Tumakuru green hydrogen and hyperscale data centre platform. The comprehensive multi-phase project aims to achieve a total IT load of 2,250 MW and a green hydrogen capacity of 1,000 MW.
The immediate proposal covers the first phase of the development, which entails a gross investment of ₹17,114 crore. This initial phase includes 400 MW of data-centre capacity distributed across two campuses of 200 MW each, alongside a 500 MW green hydrogen and power complex.
To facilitate the first phase, the company has requested 1,000 acres of land. Out of this total allocation, approximately 400 acres are earmarked for the data centres, and another 400 acres are designated for the green power complex. The remaining 200 acres are planned for safety and environmental buffers, which will include a separation zone for the hydrogen facility.
Regarding resource utilization, the project is projected to require approximately 13 million litres per day (MLD) of water. The primary source for this water requirement will be treated industrial or CETP effluent. Additionally, the company has outlined plans to recycle between 80 to 85 percent of the water used, keeping limited borewell water strictly as a backup option.
"Large-scale infrastructure and green energy investments of this magnitude highlight Karnataka's growing appeal as a hub for advanced digital and sustainable technologies. A multi-phase project combining hyperscale data centres with green hydrogen production requires careful long-term planning, particularly regarding land allocation and resource management like industrial water recycling. For the state economy, executing such capital-intensive projects in phases helps mitigate execution risks while building robust technological and environmental capacities." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
