He is the MD & CEO at Tata Realty and Infrastructure Limited (TRIL) and Tata Housing.

What inspired you to join the above company and this sector?

I joined the company due to its strong leadership, core values, and the rich company legacy. The reason why I got drawn towards the real estate sector was because of the inherent opportunities available in this domain, its dynamic nature, possibilities for future growth and the prospects of adding value to the management style.

What is your life mantra?

I live by the ideals of promoting and practicing excellence wherever I go. Also, I firmly believe in practicing good karma and staying positive. 

What was the most challenging part of your journey till now?

I have spent 24 years of my life in the real estate sector, managing various aspects of the real estate sector including strategic planning and tactical implementation across key geographies of India. This journey has been a challenging one albeit by choice. Anything less would not have given me the satisfaction that I derive from my work today.

How do you protect yourself from the problem of brain drain?

I always try to look at the brighter side of things. Therefore, in the case of brain drain too, I look at the gains aspect, even if it meant draining me to make a difference to someone personally and professionally.

Share one habit that you think makes you more productive?

It is very important to believe in yourself, in whatever you do.

Share one habit that you wish to change in yourself?

I wish I had the ability to say ‘No’ to people.

One most important lesson that you have learned until now:  Values are more important than value.

Apps that you can’t live without In the office, I do not think I could survive without Email, whereas on the personal front, it would be Whatsapp.

If you get a chance to start your career again what would you do differently this time?

I regret not managing my health in a better way. So, if now I got a chance to start again, I would pay more attention to both my physical and mental wellness.

Share a quote that inspires you the most.

I believe in these lines by Sir Ratan Tata, Eat Food like Medicine. It’s something that stands very relevant in the times we live in where life is stressful owing to pressures from all across. One needs to eat well and in moderation apart from doing some basic exercises and living well.

What makes you excited about Mondays?

A Sunday spent doing things I love at a leisured speed and spending time with my family are the two things that make me very happy. And a happy Sunday is what makes me look up to Mondays on a positive note.

According to you how self-worth and happiness important in a job?

In the truly competitive times that we live in, it is very important to believe in yourself as that is something that can make you truly happy. And when you are happy, you perform well. Thus, both are equally important in life and by extension, on the job too.

Describe some difficult leadership situations and how you managed people through them?

I have tried to follow the principle of honesty in my relationship with people in difficult situations, abiding by the values of transparency in relationships. Other ways have been to bring a change in the management with a view to providing a new direction and decisiveness, without compromising on the aspects of respect and dignity.

Do you invest (or have interest) in Startups?

No, I don’t invest in startups.
