Shares of Colgate fell over 3 percent on Tuesday following the company's Analyst Meet 2026, where management underscored premiumisation as a primary growth driver while signalling a greater emphasis on long-term growth rather than near-term margin expansion. At 12:42 pm, the stock traded 2.49 percent lower at ₹1,916 on the BSE, after touching an intraday low of ₹1,902.60.
During the investor interactions, the oral-care major discussed its strategic growth initiatives and category opportunities. With toothpaste penetration around 99 percent in the domestic market, management noted significant headroom for consumption growth, particularly supported by low brushing frequency and low dentist penetration. The company recently reported a 7 percent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹343.08 crore for Q1FY27.
Domestically, brokerage Motilal Oswal noted a strong Q1FY27 performance with 12 percent year-on-year revenue growth, marking the first quarter of double-digit revenue expansion in six quarters. Motilal Oswal reiterated its buy rating with a target price of ₹2,500, modelling a 9 percent revenue CAGR and an 11 percent EBITDA CAGR over FY26–28E. Other brokerages shared varied stances: HSBC maintained a hold call with a target of ₹2,140, CLSA retained a hold at ₹2,024, Citi issued a sell rating with a target of ₹2,000, and Jefferies maintained a buy rating with a target price of ₹2,650.
Jefferies highlighted that Colgate's premium portfolio has been growing six times faster than its overall portfolio, with its revenue share increasing 2.5 times since CY21. The company's product range spans from ₹10 to ₹299 per handle, and its topline growth in H1CY26 stood 10 percentage points ahead of the competition. Management's revised strategy focuses on balanced growth through volume recovery, calibrated pricing, and premiumisation.
As part of its digital-first strategy to revive its underperforming personal-care business, Colgate has handed Palmolive’s e-commerce and D2C operations over to Bombay Shaving Company.
From a technical standpoint, Mayank Jain, Market Analyst at Share.Market by PhonePe, observed that the stock is currently in a corrective phase and trading below key moving averages. Jain identified ₹1,750 to ₹1,800 as an immediate support zone, noting that price stabilisation backed by strong volume is necessary before any sustained upward momentum toward the ₹2,000–₹2,200 range can materialize.
"Colgate's strategic pivot toward premiumisation and volume growth highlights how established fast-moving consumer goods companies must adapt to evolving consumer preferences to sustain momentum in a mature market. By shifting focus toward long-term brand expansion and optimizing their digital and direct-to-consumer channels through strategic partnerships like the one with Bombay Shaving Company, legacy brands can effectively capture new growth segments despite short-term margin pressures." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
