The Nifty 50 opened today’s session with a gap-down at 22,524 compared to last week’s close of 22,600, before hovering back around the 22,600 mark. The early advance-decline ratio stood even at 25/25.
Among individual constituents of the Nifty 50, BSE led the top gainers, rising by 4 per cent, followed by Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, which gained 3.4 per cent. On the downside, Tata Consumer Products declined 4.5 per cent and Shriram Finance dropped 4.2 per cent, emerging as the top losers.
Sectoral performance showed Nifty Pharma leading the chart with a 0.8 per cent gain, while Nifty FMCG remained the weakest sector, down 0.7 per cent. Despite the gap-down opening, the Nifty 50 closed the first hour of trade in the green, signaling underlying buying interest, though potential resistance overhead is expected to cap gains.
As the October contract approaches its expiry on October 27, market analysis shifts focus to the November contract. Nifty November futures opened lower at 22,601 against Friday’s close of 22,661, and are currently trading at 22,780, marking an increase of about 0.5 per cent.
Technical indicators show that the contract faces notable resistance at the 22,900 level. A decisive breakout above this barrier is required to establish a positive outlook, which could potentially drive the November futures toward targets of 23,100 and subsequently 23,300.
Conversely, if the contract declines from the current level of 22,780, immediate support is identified at 22,750 and 22,700. A breakdown below 22,700 would strengthen the position of bears, potentially pushing the November futures down to 22,550.
Overall market conditions reflect a mild bullish bias for the session, though sustained momentum depends on breaching the key resistance barrier at 22,900.
"The current market behavior reflects a cautious stance among traders as indices test critical technical thresholds. While early buying interest is visible, the presence of strong overhead resistance at 22,900 means that short-term positions require disciplined risk management. Investors and traders should closely monitor broader sectoral trends and support levels rather than reacting purely to intraday fluctuations." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
