Sportswear giant Nike has unveiled its first running shoe designed specifically for the Indian market, named Vegam Run. The launch follows the company's recent announcement regarding a new campus in India as it targets growth during a local running boom.

Global sportswear major Nike has introduced its first-ever running shoe designed specifically for the Indian market. Named the Vegam Run, the product launch marks the company's latest effort to capture consumer demand in the world's most populous country.

The introduction of the Vegam Run comes as Nike seeks fresh growth avenues to counter sales slumps in other major international markets, including China. The sportswear brand is working to establish a stronger foothold in India, tapping into a growing local interest in running and fitness.

This product launch follows closely on the heels of another major strategic announcement by the company. Earlier this month, Nike revealed plans to open a new campus in India, further signaling its long-term operational commitment to the region as it navigates challenges in its broader global portfolio.

"Nike's decision to introduce a product specifically tailored for the Indian market demonstrates the growing importance of localized strategies for global brands. By focusing on emerging trends like the local running boom and establishing dedicated infrastructure such as a new campus, multinational companies are adapting their approaches to capture sustainable growth in high-population regions while managing headwinds in traditional markets." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
