Storage battery major Exide Industries reported a 75% year-on-year increase in its standalone net profit to ₹386.45 crore for the second quarter, backed by a 20% growth in operating revenue. The company also highlighted steady demand across its automotive OEM and replacement businesses, along with the completion of its lithium-ion cell gigafactory in Bengaluru.

Kolkata-based storage battery major Exide Industries announced its financial results for the second quarter, reporting a standalone net profit of ₹386.45 crore. This represents an approximate 75 per cent year-on-year growth compared to the net profit of ₹220.74 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

According to the company's stock exchange filing, revenue from operations for the quarter grew by around 20 per cent year-on-year to reach ₹5,026.14 crore, up from ₹4,178.29 crore in the same period last year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) during the period witnessed a 53.6 per cent year-on-year increase, standing at ₹606 crore compared to ₹394.5 crore previously. The EBITDA margin improved to 12.1 per cent from 9.4 per cent.

The company stated that calibrated price increases, volume growth, and cost optimization initiatives enabled the 270 basis points expansion in EBITDA margins. However, total expenses during the quarter rose by 15.88 per cent year-on-year to ₹4,546.26 crore, compared to ₹3,923.14 crore a year ago. Exide noted that input costs remained elevated due to prolonged geopolitical challenges, and the full benefit of softer Lead LME and antimony prices could not be realized on a sequential basis due to a weaker rupee.

Exide Industries reported broad-based growth across several key business segments. The automotive Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) business delivered over 25 per cent year-on-year growth for the fourth consecutive quarter, supported by key new product launches. Additionally, the two-wheeler and four-wheeler replacement business registered double-digit growth for the fourth successive quarter, driven by steady aftermarket demand.

The company's export business grew by over 20 per cent year-on-year for the second consecutive quarter on a low base. During the period, Exide also signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with Germany's ExCom Energy Solutions GmbH to expand its industrial battery and energy storage business across the European Economic Area.

Furthermore, Exide Energy Solutions (EESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, completed the commissioning of its 6 GWh lithium-ion cell gigafactory in Bengaluru on September 23.

"Exide Industries' latest financial results demonstrate how traditional industrial manufacturing companies can successfully balance volume growth with margin expansion through disciplined cost optimization and calibrated pricing. Achieving strong double-digit growth across OEM and replacement segments, alongside strategic global partnerships and the commissioning of their lithium-ion cell gigafactory, reflects a forward-looking approach to evolving energy demands. For the broader industrial and manufacturing ecosystem, this highlights the importance of scaling core operations while simultaneously investing in future-ready technologies like energy storage to maintain long-term market competitiveness." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
