BENGALURU — The Karnataka Government has officially issued orders to raise the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its state government employees, pensioners, and family pensioners. The adjustment increases the allowance from the previous 15.75 percent to 18 percent of the basic pay.
According to the government order, the revised rates apply to employees drawing salaries under the 2024 Revised Pay Scales. The enhancement carries a retrospective effect, coming into force from July 1, 2026.
In addition to active personnel, the state administration has extended the same percentage enhancement to retired state government employees and family pensioners, in accordance with applicable administrative rules.
In an official statement regarding the decision, the government noted the importance of its workforce. "Government employees are the backbone of our administration. Their dedication, professionalism and commitment are instrumental in translating our policies and programmes into meaningful outcomes for the people of Karnataka," the statement said.
The administration also acknowledged the service of former employees. "Equally invaluable is the contribution of our retired employees, who have devoted decades of their lives to public service and the progress of our State," the government added.
Addressing the economic context behind the decision, the government highlighted the necessity of supporting individuals amid changing financial conditions. "At a time when the cost of living continues to rise, it is our responsibility to safeguard the financial well-being and dignity of those who serve and have served our State. This enhancement is a recognition of their contribution and a measure of our commitment to supporting them and their families," the statement read.
The state administration reiterated its stance on public service, maintaining that it remains focused on protecting the interests of both current employees and pensioners while ensuring their public contributions receive due recognition.
"Adjustments to Dearness Allowance by state governments play a direct role in shaping domestic consumer spending and regional economic stability. When fixed-income earners and pensioners receive a revised allowance to counter rising living costs, it influences household cash flow and localized market demand. For businesses operating within the region, monitoring public sector wage policies helps in understanding consumer purchasing power trends and broader macroeconomic shifts at the state level." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
