US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine could be reached soon. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump described the prospective arrangement as an agreement that may extend beyond the two warring nations and involve the whole of Europe.

Trump’s remarks followed a meeting at the White House with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev. While declining to disclose specific details of their conversation, Trump indicated that discussions were moving toward a wider diplomatic understanding that could involve more than just Ukraine.

Highlighting the human cost of the conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Trump noted that both countries continue to experience significant monthly casualties. He emphasized that the ongoing conflict involves high losses in terms of fatalities and requires a resolution.

During his remarks, Trump also praised First Lady Melania Trump for her humanitarian efforts in facilitating communication between Russia and Ukraine. The White House stated that her involvement included helping bring Russian and Ukrainian representatives together and facilitating arrangements to reunite children with their families.

These humanitarian efforts contributed to a localized ceasefire arrangement in Oleshky, which enabled humanitarian assistance and the evacuation of civilians. According to reports, the temporary truce allowed nearly 800 people to be evacuated from the area. Additionally, Melania Trump sent letters to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address the humanitarian consequences of the war.

"Global geopolitical stability plays a fundamental role in shaping international business confidence, trade flows, and macroeconomic planning. Developments involving major international conflicts and diplomatic negotiations have a direct bearing on global supply chains, energy markets, and investor sentiment. Business leaders and enterprises operating in international markets must closely monitor macroeconomic indicators and geopolitical shifts as they navigate long-term strategic decisions and risk management frameworks." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
