The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday announced the launch of the 'Network Anubhav Platform'. The new offering is a geospatial and analytical dashboard designed to aggregate consumer-generated speed and call test data alongside the regulator's own independent drive test results.
According to TRAI, the platform also integrates a Do Not Disturb (DND) web interface. The user test data compiled on the dashboard is sourced from TRAI's existing MySpeed and MyCall applications. The regulator stated that the system is built to deliver insights on various network parameters to consumers, telecom service providers, and the regulatory body itself.
Under the features offered by the platform, consumers can view test results displayed on interactive maps. These maps can be sorted by cellular or fixed broadband, and further segregated by service provider and technology type based on parameters such as download and upload speeds.
The dashboard reports percentile values calculated from tests conducted by users within specific geographic areas. For mobile broadband, it reports values such as P50 (median speed) and P80, while reporting P90 for fixed broadband. TRAI noted that while these user-generated values do not constitute a comprehensive assessment of network quality based on standard methodology, they offer useful information regarding the experiences of other users at various locations.
For telecom service providers (TSPs), the platform provides access to call quality, coverage, and internet test data—including location, date, and time—through a secure interface. TRAI indicated that telcos can utilize this data to pinpoint problem areas and work on improving their network infrastructure.
Anil Kumar Lahoti, Chairman of TRAI, stated that the platform brings transparency to observed network tests conducted by consumers and the regulator. He added that the tool empowers consumers to analyze location- and service-provider-specific tests, enables TSPs to identify areas for network optimization, and strengthens overall network improvement efforts.
The regulatory authority has encouraged consumers to regularly contribute data through the TRAI MySpeed and MyCall applications, noting that wider participation will help improve the coverage and overall utility of the platform's information.
"The launch of the Network Anubhav Platform introduces a data-driven approach to telecom service monitoring by leveraging crowdsourced user insights alongside regulatory tests. For businesses, startups, and enterprises dependent on reliable digital infrastructure, such transparency is critical. It enables operators to identify bottlenecks faster and gives consumers clear visibility into regional network performance, ultimately driving better service quality across the board." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
