NEW DELHI / VISAKHAPATNAM — In a significant milestone for India's digital economy, Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in nurturing next-generation technology talent. According to official data recently presented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in the Lok Sabha, over 1.53 lakh candidates in the state have successfully received specialized training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics over the past three years.
The data, revealed under the aegis of the ambitious FutureSkills PRIME programme, highlights Andhra Pradesh's aggressive push toward building a robust, future-ready workforce. Out of a total of 1.53,783 candidates who completed their training, an impressive 1,08,895 individuals have officially achieved certification, making AP the top-performing state across India in the AI and Big Data Analytics domains.
The scale of participation in the state is vast. Government statistics indicate that Andhra Pradesh boasts a cumulative total of over 4.34 lakh candidates enrolled or trained across various technological tracks within the initiative. Of this broader pool, more than 2.13 lakh candidates specifically focused on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics, showcasing a profound regional shift toward high-value technology domains.
Launched as a collaborative effort between MeitY and the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the FutureSkills PRIME (Programme for Reskilling/Upskilling in IT Manpower for Employment) initiative is designed to address critical talent gaps. The programme focuses heavily on skilling, reskilling, and upskilling India's workforce in emerging technologies—ranging from AI and Big Data Analytics to the Internet of Things (IoT), Cybersecurity, Blockchain, and Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR). Courses are meticulously curated and aligned with current industry standards to ensure high employability.
Nationwide, the impact of the FutureSkills PRIME programme has been transformative, recording over 34 lakh registrations, 23 lakh-plus enrolled and trained candidates, and more than 13 lakh completions and certifications. Notably, official releases emphasize that roughly 86 percent of these participating candidates hail from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, signaling a massive decentralization of tech education and the rise of talent hubs beyond traditional metropolitan centers.
