Representatives from various political parties in Telangana have urged the government to implement the Land Licensed Cultivators Act, 2011. The move aims to provide tenant farmers with loan eligibility cards and access to institutional credit ahead of the upcoming Assembly session.

An all-party meeting in Telangana has passed a resolution calling for the immediate implementation of the Land Licensed Cultivators Act, 2011. The coalition of political representatives is pressing the state government to distribute loan eligibility cards to tenant farmers to help them secure institutional credit during the current agricultural season.

During the meeting, representatives urged the government to take a definitive decision on the matter during the ensuing Assembly session. In addition to credit access, the participants demanded that tenant farmers be granted the ability to sell their agricultural produce to the government at the minimum support price.

The joint statement was signed by several political leaders, including Telangana Kisan Congress President S Anvesh Reddy, CPI leader Chada Venkata Reddy, and Telangana Jana Samithi leader Kodandaram.

According to figures highlighted at the meeting, over 22 lakh families depend on tenant farming in the state, making a substantial contribution to Telangana’s agricultural sector. However, these farmers currently face significant financial hurdles as they are unable to access various government schemes and institutional credit.

Without formal credit channels, tenant farmers are largely forced to rely on informal moneylenders who charge exorbitant interest rates to finance their farming operations. The all-party appeal seeks to address this financial exclusion by formalizing the status of tenant cultivators through statutory recognition and targeted lending support.

"The financial inclusion of tenant farmers is critical for the stability of the rural economy. When a vast segment of cultivators depends on high-interest informal lenders, it restricts overall productivity and market efficiency. Implementing structured credit eligibility mechanisms helps protect livelihoods and ensures better supply chain integration for agricultural produce." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
