Camikara, an Indian pure cane juice aged rum produced by Piccadily Distilleries, has won multiple medals at the International Spirits Challenge 2026 in the UK and the SIP Awards in California. The recognition comes as the domestic spirits sector navigates rising regulatory scrutiny.

NEW DELHI — Camikara, India's first pure cane juice aged rum produced by Piccadily Distilleries, has secured multiple awards across international competitions in the United Kingdom and the United States.

At the International Spirits Challenge 2026 (ISC) in the UK, the brand won Silver medals for its 3-year-old (3YO), 8-year-old (8YO), and 12-year-old (12YO) expressions. The company noted that the brand competed directly against established international producers with generations of heritage.

In its debut participation at the SIP Awards in California, the Camikara 8YO was awarded 'Best in Class, Platinum', which is the highest recognition in the Rum Aged/Rhum Agricole Aged category. Additionally, the 3YO expression secured a Gold medal. Both the 3YO and 8YO expressions also received the Innovation Award, which is given independently by a judging panel following blind tastings to spirits that demonstrate a distinctive and original taste profile.

Camikara is produced from 100 per cent pure sugarcane juice rather than molasses, following the traditional rhum agricole method. It is aged in oak casks without additives, and its portfolio spans three expressions: 3YO, 8YO, and 12YO.

The international recognition arrives at a time when India's domestic spirits industry faces rising regulatory scrutiny. Shalini Sharma, Head of Marketing at Piccadily Distilleries, stated that the brand was built to represent India globally rather than replicate existing rum traditions.

Piccadily Distilleries is operated by its publicly listed parent company, Piccadily Agro Industries Limited (PAIL), which also markets Indri Single Malt and Cashmir Vodka. The parent company was previously recognized as India’s fastest-growing single malt whisky brand in 2024. On the market front, shares of PAIL closed at ₹622.25, down 1.85 per cent, with a market capitalisation of approximately ₹6,121 crore.

"The success of Camikara on international platforms highlights a growing global appreciation for premium, origin-driven products originating from India. Venturing beyond traditional molasses-based production to adopt the rhum agricole method demonstrates how Indian manufacturers can compete globally on product quality and differentiation. For established businesses and emerging enterprises alike, focusing on distinct craft methods and international validation serves as a viable strategy to scale globally, even while navigating domestic regulatory headwinds." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
