Developed and operated by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited (GVIAL)—a subsidiary of the infrastructure conglomerate GMR Group—the greenfield airport launched with a robust schedule connecting Visakhapatnam directly to major domestic hubs, as well as crucial international markets across the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The inaugural day witnessed a flurry of high-profile operations, including the first domestic arrival by IndiGo flight 6E 6408 from Hyderabad, followed by the first international carrier flight operated by Singapore’s Scoot (TR 784 from Singapore), and IndiGo's initial international route linking Abu Dhabi. Marking the grand opening, arriving aircraft from major carriers such as Air India Express, Air India, and India One were welcomed with traditional water cannon salutes, underlining the scale of operations that saw 52 planned air traffic movements (ATMs) on day one.
