The official TelanganaRising delegation, led by Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has cancelled its planned visit to the United States after the Ministry of External Affairs denied permission from a political angle.
The state government had sought official clearance from the Centre for a joint trip covering the United Kingdom and the United States, following standard policy and protocol. However, the Centre approved only the UK leg of the itinerary, communicating its refusal for the US visit after the delegation had already arrived in the United Kingdom.
Addressing the decision in a release issued on Friday, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed surprise at the denial. He stated that the primary objective of the US visit was to engage with top global and Ivy League institutions in alignment with the Centre’s New Education Policy. The goal was to bring world-class education, skills, and training opportunities to the youth in Telangana and Hyderabad.
Despite describing the decision as a political denial that impacts efforts related to TelanganaRising and education, the Chief Minister confirmed that he would comply with the Central directive. Instead of proceeding to Boston, USA, he will take a return flight to Hyderabad from London.
Meanwhile, accompanying officials have been instructed to proceed with the US trip to conclude scheduled memoranda of understanding and partnership agreements. The state government maintains its objective to develop Hyderabad into a global knowledge hub by leveraging existing institutions such as Osmania University, HCU, JNTU, IIT, ISB, IIIT, and Nalsar to attract global education and skills providers.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will proceed with his scheduled itinerary in the United Kingdom. His engagements include visits to and interactions with academic institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, the London Business School, and the University of London. Additionally, he will meet with top sports institutions and skilling leadership in the UK to formalize potential partnerships for the state.
