The Department of Posts (DoP), operating under the India Post brand, has crossed the ₹4,000 crore revenue threshold in two successive quarters for the first time in its history. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced the financial milestone on Thursday.
For the second quarter ended September 30, 2026, India Post registered a 25 per cent year-on-year growth, clocking a revenue of ₹4,202 crore compared to ₹3,355 crore during the corresponding period in the previous year. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, this represents an increase of nearly 5 per cent.
The strong performance across the board was led by the parcel segment, which recorded a 71 per cent growth. Additionally, Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural PLI grew by 44 per cent compared to the quarter ended September 2025. The International Business (IB) segment also saw significant traction, growing by 38 per cent.
For the first half (H1) of the financial year, India Post's revenue grew by nearly 24 per cent, moving from approximately ₹6,500 crore in the previous year to ₹8,213 crore.
Alongside revenue growth, the postal department reported improvements in cost efficiency. The expenditure coverage ratio (ECR)—excluding pension costs—rose to 62 per cent for the second quarter, up from 54 per cent in the same period last year, marking an improvement of nearly 8 per cent.
Geographically, three postal circles—Bihar, West Bengal, and the North East—exceeded expectations and performed strongly across all parameters during the quarter.
"India Post crossing the ₹4,000 crore revenue mark for two consecutive quarters highlights the massive commercial potential of traditional public infrastructure when aligned with modern logistics demand. The 71 per cent growth in the parcel segment and 38 per cent growth in international business demonstrate how legacy networks can successfully capture high-growth delivery markets. For the broader business and logistics ecosystem, this structural turnaround indicates strong domestic consumption and improving last-mile delivery reach across tier-2 and tier-3 regions." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
