Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc have announced plans to hold a 'public impeachment' of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 30, followed by a major march to Ramlila Maidan on November 1. The actions are part of ongoing protests led by Congress and allied parties regarding alleged poll irregularities and voter list revisions.

Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc announced that they will hold a 'public impeachment' of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 30. The event, described as a mock Parliament, is scheduled to take place at Hotel Ashok in the presence of opposition MPs and top leaders.

Congress general secretary K C Venugopal stated that a public verdict to remove the Chief Election Commissioner will be delivered during the proceeding. Following this, on November 1, the bloc plans to carry out a 'Dilli Chalo march' culminating at Ramlila Maidan. The opposition coalition is organizing the protests against what it terms 'vote chori' and poll irregularities related to the Special Intensive Revision.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has reached out to leaders of all INDIA bloc parties to ensure their presence in Delhi for the two-day events. The Congress leadership has also held internal meetings with heads of its frontal organizations, its Delhi unit, and leaders from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to prepare for the November 1 rally.

Mahila Congress chief Alka Lamba stated that the party has set a target of gathering one million participants for the march. Organizers noted that despite the festival season, the schedule for the rally remains unchanged. The protests also follow a petition filed in the Supreme Court on October 12, where opposition leaders and civil society members marched against the Special Intensive Revision process.

"Political developments and institutional frictions often carry broader implications for business confidence and regulatory stability in the broader economy. When major political coalitions engage in sustained public demonstrations regarding governance and electoral oversight, it creates an environment of policy uncertainty that markets and enterprises monitor closely. Stability in democratic institutions is foundational to long-term economic planning and investment sentiment in the country." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
