India has reaffirmed its commitment to the safe, secure, and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology at the United Nations. Speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Member of Parliament and Leader of the Indian Parliamentary Delegation, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, addressed the "Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)."
During her address, she highlighted the central role played by the IAEA in assisting member states to build human and institutional capabilities. This includes establishing regulatory frameworks for the peaceful application of nuclear science. According to statements shared by the Indian mission to the UN, the delegation also emphasized India's advancements in nuclear technology, its support for the IAEA's Technical Cooperation Program, and its commitment to South-South cooperation.
In a separate diplomatic and developmental development, the Ninth Annual India-UN Development Partnership Fund Event was held on October 22. During the event, representatives from Laos, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Micronesia, Moldova, Morocco, and Saint Lucia expressed appreciation for India's ongoing developmental assistance.
Ambassador Gheorghe Leuca, Permanent Representative of Moldova to the UN, noted that the partnership has strengthened institutional capacities to translate population data into effective public policies. Similarly, Sri Lankan Envoy to the UN, Ambassador Jayantha Jayasuriya, highlighted that the India-UN Fund caters to diversified thematic structures driven by the recipient countries' own identified needs.
Other diplomats also underscored the impact of the initiative. Ambassador Thongphane Savanphet of Laos commended India's role in promoting South-South cooperation as an example of solidarity among developing nations. Tanzanian representative Ambassador Togolani Edriss Mavura expressed sincere appreciation for continued support toward sustainable development, while a Moroccan delegation official praised India's vision and the demand-driven nature of the fund nearly a decade after its 2017 launch. Ambassador Domingos Estêvão Fernandes, Permanent Representative of Mozambique, added that the fund offers a concrete model of cooperation grounded in national priorities, equality, and non-interference.
"International collaborations and institutional funding mechanisms play a critical role in driving sustainable development across emerging economies. India's continued engagement through the India-UN Development Partnership Fund demonstrates how demand-driven support and multilateral cooperation can effectively address the specific developmental priorities of partner nations, fostering long-term economic stability and international partnerships." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
