Indian equity markets are poised for a positive start to November, driven by robust quarterly results from Reliance Industries and strong domestic indicators including October auto sales and GST collections. However, analysts caution that macro headwinds, including crude oil prices and global events, remain key factors to monitor.

Equity markets in India are set to begin the first trading day of November on a positive note, with the Nifty signaling a strong opening gain of around 200 points. Gift Nifty was trading at 23,305, compared to the previous Nifty futures close of 23,101.

Market sentiment received a boost from strong financial results posted by index heavyweight Reliance Industries following market hours on Friday. Domestic economic indicators also provided support, highlighted by robust automobile sales figures and strong Goods & Services Tax (GST) collections for October.

Data from VAHAN indicated that India's passenger-vehicle registrations across 14 manufacturers rose 15.1 percent to 498,208 in October, up from 432,802 in September. Meanwhile, two-wheeler registrations jumped 28.7 percent to 2,320,139, supported by festive demand around Dussehra and ahead of Diwali. Additionally, October GST collections reached Rs 2.31 lakh crore, marking the second-highest monthly collection on record.

Foreign institutional investor (FII) activity remained a primary influence on domestic sentiment throughout October, with cumulative net outflows reaching approximately Rs 45,160 crore. However, FIIs displayed intermittent buying interest during the month, and the pace of selling moderated during the final week.

Dr. V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments, noted early signs of FIIs turning toward India, supported by the U.S. Fed holding rates steady, attractive valuations in Indian large-caps, and sustained economic momentum indicated by robust credit growth and improving industrial capex.

Despite the positive opening sentiment, market analysts have highlighted ongoing macroeconomic challenges. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, warned that crude oil remains a key source of uncertainty. WTI crude climbed above $104 per barrel toward the end of the week amid geopolitical concerns and regional energy supply risks.

Looking ahead, market participants will also closely monitor the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, which will determine control of Congress across 435 House seats, about one-third of the 100 Senate seats, and numerous state governorships.

Ajit Mishra, SVP of Research at Religare Broking, stated that markets will remain focused on the September-quarter earnings season, key economic data releases, and global developments. Investors will assess corporate performance for revenue growth, margin resilience, and demand conditions, with banking results offering insights into credit growth, deposit mobilization, and asset quality.

"The positive opening driven by strong festive auto sales and solid GST collections highlights the underlying resilience of domestic consumption in India. However, business leaders and investors must maintain a balanced perspective. While domestic demand and corporate earnings provide strong fundamental support, external macroeconomic variables like crude oil volatility and global geopolitical developments require careful navigation in the coming weeks." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
