Two Varanasi-bound IndiGo flights were diverted to Lucknow on Sunday due to an ongoing air show in Varanasi, according to an official statement from the Chowdhury Charan Singh International Airport.
The affected services included the Delhi-Varanasi flight (6E5025) and the Hyderabad-Varanasi flight (6E915). Both aircraft landed safely at the Lucknow airport, with the flight from Delhi touching down at 10:14 am and the flight from Hyderabad landing at 10:19 am.
The disruptions are linked to the Air Force Day Aerial Display-2026, which is being held at Namo Ghat to mark the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force. The event is part of a three-day air show that commenced on Thursday, though operations were paused on Friday due to the state's legislative council elections.
"Flight diversions and airspace restrictions during large-scale public events highlight the critical need for robust operational agility and proactive communication in the aviation and travel sectors. For businesses operating in logistics and passenger transport, coordinating closely with regulatory timetables is essential to manage schedule integrity and minimize passenger inconvenience when civic or defense events alter standard transit routes." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
