Larsen & Toubro has secured contracts worth over ₹50,000 crore in West Asia during August across hydrocarbon, renewables, and transport segments. The latest order involves three battery energy storage system projects valued between ₹5,000 and ₹10,000 crore.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has continued to expand its order book in West Asia, securing contracts worth over ₹50,000 crore across hydrocarbon, renewables, and transport segments during the month of August alone. Despite ongoing regional tensions, the engineering and construction major has maintained strong order inflows from the region.

The company announced its latest contract on Tuesday for the development of three battery energy storage system (BESS) projects for a notable client in the Middle East. Valued in the ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 crore range, this marks the fifth order win for L&T in August. The scope of work for these packages includes grid interconnections, pooling substations, and underground cables.

The three BESS projects will collectively contribute 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of storage capacity. This development represents a significant step in grid modernisation and renewable-energy integration across West Asia, further establishing L&T as a key engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) player in the expanding energy storage sector.

West Asia remains a vital market for the conglomerate. The region contributed 34 per cent to L&T’s revenue in FY26. Furthermore, as of March, 40 per cent of the company’s ₹7.4-lakh crore order book originated from West Asia.

While L&T experienced slower revenue growth and cost escalations due to supply-chain disruptions in the first quarter, the company maintains a positive outlook for the region. Speaking during a post-result conference call last month, R Shankar Raman, President and Wholetime Director (Finance) at L&T, stated that the company is confident of securing additional orders from West Asia, including reconstruction and upgrade projects.

"Larsen & Toubro's ability to secure over ₹50,000 crore in contracts within a single month highlights the strength of its execution capabilities and deep market penetration in West Asia. Diversifying into high-growth areas like battery energy storage systems alongside traditional hydrocarbon and transport segments ensures long-term resilience. For large enterprises operating globally, maintaining operational continuity despite regional tensions and supply-chain pressures remains critical to sustaining robust order books." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
