Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his congratulations to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva following his re-election victory.
President Lula secured his re-election on Sunday. According to announcements by Brazil's electoral court following the counting of 100 per cent of the votes, Lula held a lead of nearly 4.4 million votes, capturing 51.8 per cent of the total vote over his opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro.
In a post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated, "Heartiest congratulations to my dear friend, President Lula, on his remarkable re-election victory. I look forward to working closely with him to further deepen and expand the multifaceted India-Brazil Strategic Partnership."
Modi further noted that India and Brazil will continue to collaborate across diverse sectors. He emphasized the mutual objective of advancing the shared priorities of the Global South and contributing toward a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable global environment.
"Diplomatic stability and strong bilateral relations between major developing economies like India and Brazil play a critical role in shaping the broader macroeconomic environment. For businesses operating internationally, strengthened geopolitical ties often pave the way for smoother trade, cross-border investments, and cooperative frameworks within the Global South. Consistent leadership continuity allows companies to navigate trade policies with greater predictability and long-term strategic alignment." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
