Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting has officially entered the domestic pet food market with the introduction of its new nutrition brand, Snuggles. The newly launched brand enters a market segment currently estimated at Rs 5,500 crore.
According to the company, Snuggles is designed to provide complete nutrition, taste, and human-grade ingredients at an accessible value for pet owners. Anil Chugh, President of Wipro Foods, noted that the company is responding to a broader cultural shift in how pets are cared for across the country.
"As pet parenting continues to evolve, we see a significant opportunity to offer superior nutrition, trusted ingredients and meaningful innovation at an accessible price point," Chugh said. He added that pets are increasingly being treated like children, which is shaping new consumer expectations regarding wellness and care.
Data cited by the company indicates that a major transformation is underway within the sector, with 67% of pet parents identified as first-time owners. This demographic shift has led to an increased focus on health, wellbeing, and scientifically formulated high-quality nutrition tailored to various life stages.
Saurabh Shekhar, Managing Partner for Pet Care at Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, highlighted the growth potential of the category. "The pet food category holds tremendous potential and remains significantly underpenetrated despite the dramatic shift taking place in pet parenting," Shekhar stated.
The brand name Snuggles was chosen to reflect the warmth, comfort, and affection associated with pet care, aligning with Wipro's stated commitment to supporting pets through every stage of their lives.
"Wipro Consumer Care’s entry into the Rs 5,500-crore pet food market highlights a clear business opportunity driven by changing consumer demographics. With 67% of pet parents being first-time owners, the demand for accessible, scientifically formulated nutrition is rising rapidly. Established players expanding into underpenetrated categories validate the growth of pet care as a serious commercial sector in India." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
