Aditya Birla Capital Ltd has expanded its secured lending portfolio by entering the gold loan market. The company plans to open 200 to 300 dedicated branches by March 2027, scaling up to around 1,000 branches over the next three years.

MUMBAI — Diversified financial services firm Aditya Birla Capital Ltd (ABCL) has officially entered the gold loan market, marking a strategic expansion of its secured lending portfolio.

As part of its initial rollout plan, the company intends to establish 200 to 300 dedicated gold loan branches by March 2027 across high-potential markets. Looking further ahead, the ABCL Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC) business aims to scale its network to approximately 1,000 gold loan branches over the next three years.

Rakesh Singh, Executive Director and CEO of NBFC at ABCL, commented on the strategic move, stating that gold loans are experiencing strong structural growth in India. He noted that the entry into this segment serves as a natural extension of the company's broader secured lending strategy.

“We are building our Gold Loan business from the ground up…As we expand our presence across India, we will leverage our extensive distribution network and digital capabilities to deliver a superior customer experience,” Singh added.

The expansion comes on the heels of solid financial growth for the NBFC arm. In the financial year 2026, the NBFC Assets Under Management (AUM) grew by 28 percent year-on-year to reach ₹1,67,456 crore. Additionally, disbursements during the same period increased by 34 percent to ₹21,201 crore.

"Aditya Birla Capital's entry into the gold loan sector reflects a clear strategy to capture high-growth secured lending segments in India. By building the business from the ground up and leveraging an existing distribution network alongside digital capabilities, the company is positioning itself to scale efficiently. Financial institutions expanding into secured lending can mitigate risks while tapping into strong structural demand across domestic markets, which supports steady long-term asset growth." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
