Nifty 50 traded under pressure following an intraday fall, finding support near the 22,530 level. Market analysts are closely watching the 22,790 resistance level for Nifty 50 October Futures to determine short-term directional movement.

The Nifty 50 continued to trade under pressure following a sharp intraday fall during the early trading session on October 22, 2026. The index recorded a low of 22,554 before staging a slight recovery. At the time of reporting, the index was trading at 22,670, marking a decline of 0.61 per cent. Market breadth remained negative, indicated by an advances-to-declines ratio standing at 6:44.

The morning recovery originated just above an established support level of 22,530. Sustained follow-through buying from this zone could potentially push the index toward the 22,810 to 22,830 range during the day. However, market participants note that a decisive break above 22,830 is required to ease current downside pressure and open a path toward 22,950 and 23,000.

On the downside, the 22,500 to 22,530 band serves as a critical support zone. A breach below the 22,500 threshold risks intensifying selling pressure, which could pull the index down toward the 22,400 to 22,420 support levels.

In the derivatives segment, Nifty 50 October Futures recovered most of their early losses after touching an intraday low of 22,550, last trading at 22,730. Immediate attention is focused on a key resistance level at 22,790. A decisive break above this point could drive the contract higher to 22,920 and beyond in subsequent sessions, while a failure to breach this barrier risks dragging the index back down to the 22,500 mark.

Trading strategies for the session suggest monitoring price action closely around the 22,790 resistance. Market participants looking to go long on a break above this level are advised to maintain strict stop-loss and trailing mechanisms to manage risk amidst ongoing market volatility.

"Market corrections and key technical levels require disciplined risk management from traders and investors alike. When indices trade under pressure with a negative advance-decline ratio, capital preservation becomes just as important as identifying entry points. Monitoring defined support and resistance thresholds, such as the crucial resistance at 22,790 for Nifty futures, allows market participants to navigate short-term volatility pragmatically without reacting to emotional swings." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
