Indian equity markets witnessed cautious trading during the morning session on October 21, 2026, as investors braced for the release of second-quarter financial results. Multiple companies across sectors such as infrastructure, hospitality, financial services, and retail saw their share prices move lower on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Among the companies releasing their Q2 results are Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, Adani Green Energy, Indian Hotels Company, SRF, KEI Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, Vishal Mega Mart, and Eternal. A broad segment of mid-cap and large-cap counters experienced downward pressure during the trading hours.
Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC shares fell 1.83 per cent to trade at ₹941.20 at 10.40 am, with an intraday high of ₹958.65 and a low of ₹936.20, holding a market capitalisation of ₹27,217.18 crore. Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services declined 2.13 per cent to ₹298.40, recording an intraday low of ₹297.10 against a market capitalisation of ₹41,483.30 crore.
Infrastructure and industrial-linked stocks also faced selling pressure. KEI Industries dropped 2.02 per cent to ₹4,352.40, while SRF Ltd dipped 0.41 per cent to ₹2,422. Adani Green Energy traded 0.56 per cent lower at ₹1,287.90, with its market capitalisation recorded at ₹2.12 lakh crore. In the hospitality and retail segments, The Indian Hotels Company fell 0.48 per cent to ₹756.35, and Vishal Mega Mart slipped 0.38 per cent to ₹94.08.
Large-cap counters such as Eternal Ltd saw a decline of 1.31 per cent to ₹316, carrying a market capitalisation of ₹3.05 lakh crore. In contrast to the broader downward trend, PC Jeweller bucked the trend, rising 0.83 per cent to ₹18.28. The counter touched an intraday high and a 52-week high of ₹19.13 before slipping to an intraday low of ₹17.44, with a market capitalisation of ₹17,817.15 crore.
Beyond individual stock movements, broader business updates indicated varied sectoral performances. Ultratech Cement reported strong management commentary, while LTTS recorded revenue and margin beats for the second consecutive quarter. Sobha noted healthy collections alongside its best-ever pre-sales, and Tatva Chintan Pharma marked its fourth straight quarter of strong earnings. Conversely, Piramal Finance shared cautious management commentary, and A-One Steels noted that its first-quarter performance was impacted by higher raw material costs.
"Market movements during earnings seasons typically reflect heightened sensitivity to pre-announced performance indicators and management commentary. While certain counters experience selling pressure due to cautious outlooks or cost pressures, isolated outperformance in stocks like PC Jeweller demonstrates that company-specific momentum can still attract buyer interest despite a broader market consolidation." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
