Bank of Baroda Announces Recruitment of 2,482 Local Officers Across 20 States

Public sector lender Bank of Baroda has announced a nationwide recruitment drive to hire 2,482 officers fluent in local languages. The initiative spans 20 states and union territories, including major regions such as Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha.

The positions are for 'local bank officers' in the junior management grade. This recruitment comes in response to growing concerns regarding bank staff members' ability to communicate effectively with customers in regional languages, following recent incidents reported near Mumbai involving bank personnel unable to converse in the local language.

The announcement also follows directives issued by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in November 2025, instructing banks to remain sensitive to language concerns and amend their human resources policies if required.

To ensure long-term regional stability and customer integration, Bank of Baroda has implemented a specific service provision. Selected candidates will be required to serve their first 12 years in the state where they are recruited, or remain there until they achieve a specific promotion level within the organizational hierarchy.

Bank officials noted that state-based deployment will assist the institution in building a workforce equipped with strong local language proficiency, cultural understanding, and regional market knowledge. This strategy is expected to deepen customer relationships and support local business interactions.

Lal Singh, Executive Director of Bank of Baroda, stated that the initiative creates career opportunities for local talent while supporting economic development within individual states. He added that the recruitment aligns with the bank's role as a public sector lender in advancing inclusive growth and generating sustainable employment opportunities.

Eligibility criteria for applicants require candidates to be graduates in any discipline. Additionally, applicants must hold a minimum of one year of work experience as an officer serving in a scheduled commercial bank. The age limit for applicants has been fixed between 21 and 30 years.
