NEW DELHI — The central government has approved a proposal by the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU), located in Fursatganj, Amethi, to expand its aerospace activities by an additional 500 acres. According to a top official, the Centre has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to make the required land available for the project.
RGNAU Vice Chancellor B N Singh told reporters that the proposal has received central approval and has been forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh government. A survey for the land is currently underway. Singh added that he recently met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who assured him that the land would be made available soon.
Established in 2013 under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, RGNAU functions as an autonomous central university and remains the country's only educational institution dedicated specifically to aviation and aerospace education. At present, the university has an enrollment of 595 students.
According to the development model prepared by the university, the proposed expansion aims to increase student strength significantly, targeting an enrollment of 17,000 students by 2033. Once the state government provides the land, the university plans to develop a centre of excellence.
The expansion blueprint includes the creation of state-of-the-art laboratories, dedicated research centres, and associated infrastructure. These facilities are designed to promote higher education, research, and innovation in the fields of aviation, aerospace, and allied sectors. In addition to scaling its campus infrastructure and student intake, RGNAU is also working towards granting academic affiliation to other institutions across the country.
