Cochin International Airport and SpiceJet Trade Charges Over Flight Disruptions

Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) and SpiceJet have publicly traded charges following a weather-related advisory issued by the airline regarding operations in Kochi.

The dispute began when SpiceJet published a social media post stating that all arrivals, departures, and consequential flights might be affected due to bad weather in Kochi. The airline advised passengers to check their flight status through its website before traveling to the airport.

In response, CIAL stated that there were no adverse weather conditions in Kochi that warranted disruptions to SpiceJet services. The airport operator accused the airline of spreading misinformation, pointing out that no other airline operating from Kochi had reported weather-related disruptions during the same period.

CIAL further stated that it had noted ongoing operational issues with SpiceJet affecting international services from Kochi, causing uncertainty for passengers. The airport operator added that these issues had not been adequately addressed by the airline and had worsened over recent days, though CIAL had attempted to assist affected passengers.

In its defense, a SpiceJet spokesperson clarified that the social media advisory was intended as a precautionary measure to help passengers plan their journeys in advance. The airline emphasized that the notice stated flights might be affected and did not announce any cancellations or suspensions.

SpiceJet maintained that there were no flight cancellations from Kochi and confirmed that it had operated its scheduled daily departures to Fujairah and Dubai. The airline expressed regret for any misunderstanding caused by the advisory and reassured passengers that it continues to operate scheduled services normally.
