The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has named Vijay Sankar as its President-Elect for the 2026-27 term. Sankar, currently serving as Senior Vice President, will take over from Anant Goenka following the annual convention in November 2026.

The National Executive Committee Meeting of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry announced Vijay Sankar, Chairman of The Sanmar Group, as the FICCI President-Elect for the 2026-27 term.

Sankar is currently the Senior Vice President of the apex business chamber. He is set to succeed Anant Goenka as President at the conclusion of FICCI’s Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention, which is scheduled to take place on November 18-19, 2026, in New Delhi.

Alongside his role at The Sanmar Group—an industrial conglomerate with interests in chemicals, speciality chemicals, engineering, steel foundries, and shipping—Sankar serves as an Independent Director on the boards of TVS Motor Company Limited and Larsen & Toubro Limited. He is also the Chairman of Chemplast Sanmar Limited and holds the position of Vice President at the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association.

His professional background also includes serving as the Honorary Consul General of Denmark in Chennai. Academically, Sankar holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the J L Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Sankar is involved in philanthropic initiatives. He serves on the boards and governing bodies of multiple healthcare institutions focused on paediatric care, eye care, rural health, and support for disadvantaged sections of society.

"Leadership transitions in apex industry bodies like FICCI play a crucial role in shaping the broader economic dialogue between the private sector and policymakers. With extensive experience managing a diverse industrial conglomerate and serving on the boards of major public companies, Vijay Sankar brings deep institutional knowledge to the chamber. His upcoming tenure will be significant for addressing key industrial policies and fostering growth across traditional manufacturing, chemicals, and engineering sectors in the Indian business ecosystem." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
