Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) and The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) have entered into a multi-hotel operating agreement to develop eight properties comprising more than 2,000 rooms. The properties will be located in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Guwahati, operating under IHCL’s Taj, Vivanta, Gateway, and Ginger brands.
Under the division of responsibilities, Adani Airports will manage the development of the hotel properties, while IHCL will handle operations across its brand portfolio. The development pipeline includes three Taj hotels, two Vivanta properties, one Gateway hotel, and two Ginger hotels.
Specific locations include a Taj hotel at Terminal 2 of the Mumbai airport. The Lucknow project will feature a Vivanta and a Ginger hotel. Ahmedabad will include a Taj and a Vivanta currently in advanced stages of development, while the Guwahati properties will comprise a Taj, a Gateway, and a Ginger. These hotels will offer accommodation, dining, meetings and events, wellness, and recreational facilities.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, stated that modern airports are evolving into integrated destinations that support commerce, tourism, and urban growth. He noted that the partnership combines hospitality-led mixed-use destinations with IHCL's brand portfolio to establish hotels across key airport cities.
As part of its broader real estate strategy, Adani Airports has established Adani Airport City Limited to develop a land bank exceeding 655 acres across eight airports in seven states, which includes nearly 440 acres in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. In its initial phase, Adani Airport City plans an investment of over Rs 20,000 crore to develop approximately 22 million square feet across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati.
Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHCL, noted that airport-centric developments are emerging as significant commercial and hospitality hubs as India's aviation market grows. With this new agreement, AAHL maintains tie-ups with hotel brands for 15 properties across its airport locations. The addition brings IHCL's total presence to 25 hotels across key airports in India, catering to business and leisure travelers across different market segments.
"The strategic collaboration between Adani Airport Holdings and IHCL highlights a clear shift in how major infrastructure hubs are being utilized in India. By integrating large-scale real estate developments and airport cities with established hospitality brands, stakeholders are creating self-sustaining commercial ecosystems. For the travel and tourism sector, this model addresses the growing demand for convenient, premium accommodations directly connected to major transit points, setting a strong precedent for future urban and commercial infrastructure projects." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
