The Indian Coast Guard on Thursday rescued 13 crew members from a merchant ship that became stranded in the sea off Antarvedi, near the Andhra Pradesh coast, amid Cyclone Arnab in the Bay of Bengal.
According to the Coast Guard, the merchant vessel was travelling from Visakhapatnam to Singapore when it encountered severe difficulties due to the cyclonic conditions.
Rescue operations have since been intensified in the area. The Coast Guard has deployed helicopters to facilitate the evacuation of the remaining crew members who are still on the vessel.
Out of the total personnel on board, 13 individuals have been safely transferred to the Indian Coast Guard ship Sujay. Meanwhile, seven crew members remain aboard the stranded merchant vessel as rescue efforts continue.
According to an official release, the rescue operation is actively ongoing.
