HDFC Bank shares touched a new 52-week low of ₹669.20 on Wednesday, October 28, before recovering to trade at ₹684.35 on Thursday morning. The stock was down 0.14 per cent from the previous close of ₹685.30. It opened at ₹681.20, dipped to an intraday low of ₹678.10, and recovered to a high of ₹686.45 by 11.36 am.
Market activity showed strong buying pressure, with buy orders dominating heavily at 75.55 per cent against 24.45 per cent sell orders. This pattern suggested bargain hunting near the lows.
Wednesday’s fresh 52-week low supplanted the previous low of ₹681.90 recorded on September 11, 2026, underlining the continued erosion in the stock’s value. The bank is down nearly 31 per cent year-to-date, compared to the Nifty 50’s 12.61 per cent decline over the same period. The stock's P/E ratio stands at 13.20.
Traded volume reached 79.06 lakh shares worth ₹540 crore by mid-session, with the deliverable quantity standing at 60.40 per cent. HDFC Bank’s total market capitalisation stood at ₹10,55,797 crore. According to market observations, the stock remains under pressure as the new leadership under MD & CEO Anup Bagchi is yet to provide a visible sentiment catalyst.
Meanwhile, the broader banking index mirrored this volatile pattern. Bank Nifty formed a bullish intraday candle after hitting a session low of 53,626, recovering over 550 points to close near 54,250. The index traded at 54,267 in the previous session, with resistance marked at 54,500–54,750 and support at 53,950–53,620.
"The recent movement in HDFC Bank shares highlights classic bargain hunting by investors following a new 52-week low. While high buy-order percentages indicate short-term value buying, the broader year-to-date decline shows that the market is waiting for clearer growth catalysts under the new leadership. Investors tracking large-cap banking stocks should closely monitor volume trends and broader market stability before drawing long-term conclusions from single-session recoveries." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
