The West Bengal cabinet has approved a new industrial policy aimed at attracting fresh investments through incentives, faster clearances, and changes to land-allocation rules. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will formally announce the policy details on November 5 from the state secretariat.

The West Bengal cabinet on Wednesday approved the state's new industry policy, focusing on attracting fresh investments through structural changes including incentives, faster clearances, and revisions to land-allocation rules. Officials confirmed that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will formally unveil the policy details from the state secretariat Nabanna on November 5.

Addressing a press conference following the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister noted that the policy announcement coincides with upcoming government programs. On the same day, the state will initiate the transfer of financial assistance to eligible farmers under the Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. According to the government, an additional ₹3,000 will be provided in two instalments to farmers who already receive benefits under the central PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. The first instalment of ₹2,000 is scheduled to reach the bank accounts of around 48 lakh registered farmers on November 5.

In administrative updates, the cabinet approved renaming the state's 'Krishak Bandhu' scheme to align with the central initiative. Furthermore, the cabinet cleared a proposal to observe 'Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas' between November 11 and 18.

Addressing the state's education sector, the Chief Minister announced a significant policy shift regarding future appointments. Teachers recruited through upcoming School Service Commission (SSC) procedures will be restricted from participating directly in politics or contesting elections in panchayats, municipalities, assemblies, or the Lok Sabha. This rule applies exclusively to future recruits and does not affect existing teachers or those currently holding elected positions, with the stated aim of improving educational standards.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the creation of 1,199 new posts across various departments, including Animal Resources Development, Urban Development, Health and Family Welfare, Fire Services, and Home and Hill Affairs. These positions, along with roughly 60,000 other recent recommendations, will be filled through the SSC, Public Service Commission, and Police Recruitment Board based strictly on merit.

The cabinet also addressed welfare measures for victims of the October 17 Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal stampede, which resulted in 19 fatalities and 25 injuries. The state approved permanent Group D government jobs for interested next of kin of the victims. For two victims from Bihar who lack domicile certificates, the state will disburse a compensation of ₹25 lakh directly to their families.
