NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) announced on Thursday that it has crossed 50,000 cumulative units in electric vehicle exports for its e Vitara model since global shipments commenced in August 2025.
Europe was the primary market to receive the vehicles and continues to serve as the largest export destination. According to the company, Maruti Suzuki held its position as India's leading exporter of electric vehicles during the April-September period of financial year 2025-26.
MSIL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hisashi Takeuchi noted that the export initiative began when Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the start of production for the e Vitara at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. The manufacturing plant was designated for production intended for sale across more than 100 countries. Currently, Maruti Suzuki exports EVs to nearly 50 of those countries.
During the April-September 2026 period, MSIL accounted for approximately 93 per cent of India's electric passenger vehicle exports. The automaker has maintained its status as India's leading passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years, holding a market share of over 50 per cent of total passenger vehicle exports from India during April-September 2026. Overall, the company exports 16 models to nearly 120 countries.
The Hansalpur facility functions as the exclusive manufacturing base for Suzuki's first global battery electric vehicle. The plant recently expanded its annual production capacity to one million vehicles, making it the first Suzuki manufacturing location worldwide to achieve this capacity at a single site.
Backed by a cumulative investment of ₹25,288.7 crore, the Hansalpur facility operates as a central export hub. It accounts for nearly half of Maruti Suzuki's total overseas shipments for the 2025-26 financial year.
"Maruti Suzuki's milestone of crossing 50,000 EV exports highlights the growing strength of Indian manufacturing on the global stage. By scaling production at the Hansalpur facility and maintaining a dominant market share in passenger vehicle exports, the company demonstrates how strategic infrastructure investment can successfully position domestic production for international markets." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
