G Square Housing Seeks Expunging of Assembly Remarks, Denies Political Links and Parandur Holdings

Chennai-based real estate major G Square Housing has approached the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly, requesting the removal of references made to the company from the House records. The move follows a political exchange in the assembly on Tuesday regarding business interests in Parandur and alleged political connections.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Bala Ramajayam, Founder and Managing Director of G Square, stated that the company had submitted a letter to the Speaker containing proof of its origin and ownership. He requested the Speaker to ask members who spoke about the company to refrain from making unsubstantiated claims and to expunge the mentions from the legislative records. Ramajayam added that the company will decide on subsequent steps, including potential legal options, after receiving a response from the Speaker.

Ramajayam categorically denied any association with land ownership in Parandur or surrounding regions by himself, his family, or group companies. Challenging critics to produce evidence, he offered to give up a 50 percent share in the company if any proof of linkages to Sabareesan was shown.

The controversy arose during an assembly session on Tuesday discussing the Parandur airport project. Tamil Nadu law minister Nirmal Kumar referenced "G Square Maapilai" while discussing individuals allegedly benefiting from the proposal. Additionally, PWD minister and senior leader Aadhav Arjuna alleged that the company had purchased land around Parandur and maintained close links with the DMK and Stalin's son-in-law Sabareesan.

Addressing the company's economic footprint, Ramajayam stated that G Square holds approximately ₹10,000 crore worth of land stock backed by customer trust and supports thousands of employees. He noted that the business has contributed about ₹3,000 crore in stamp duty revenue to the State and operates in a clean manner.

Tracing the history of the firm, Ramajayam explained that G Square began as a private land aggregator in 2012, facilitating nearly 5,000 acres of land deals for various large corporates between 2011 and 2021 without legal problems or allegations of wrongdoing. However, he stated that following the company's post-Covid transition to a business-to-consumer (B2C) model and subsequent fast growth, it began facing false rumors, enforcement actions, and raids due to actions by certain competitors.
