Puducherry and its suburban areas experienced heavy overnight rainfall leading to waterlogging in low-lying zones. In response, local authorities declared a holiday for all schools across the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Normal operations and academic schedules were disrupted in Puducherry and its surrounding suburban areas following heavy overnight rainfall. The downpour resulted in reported waterlogging across multiple low-lying regions on Friday.

Addressing the weather conditions and potential commuting challenges for students, Education Minister A Namassivayam announced a one-day holiday for all government-run and privately managed schools across the Puducherry and Karaikal regions, according to an official release.

According to official data shared with PTI, precipitation levels varied across the union territory during the 24-hour period. Puducherry and its suburbs recorded 9.6 cm of rainfall, while the Karaikal region registered 4 cm.

Local authorities continue to monitor the situation in low-lying areas affected by waterlogging as the region manages the impact of the continuous rainfall.

"Adverse weather events and heavy rainfall present immediate operational challenges for local businesses, educational institutions, and daily commerce. For businesses and local administration, maintaining operational continuity during such disruptions requires robust infrastructure and proactive risk management. Timely administrative decisions, such as closing educational institutions, help prioritize safety while local supply chains and services adjust to weather-related disruptions." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
