Indian manufacturer Welspun Corp has secured a major international contract valued at approximately ₹5,500 crore ($580.3 million). The order was won through the company's US subsidiary and involves supplying coated line pipes for a natural gas pipeline project located in the Permian Basin, a prominent oil-producing field.
According to the company's announcement on Friday, the pipeline is intended to serve a data centre complex operated by a top-tier hyperscaler. However, the identity of the firm was not disclosed by Welspun Corp. The transaction highlights a growing trend among data centre operators who are actively seeking reliable natural gas supplies to power their expanding facilities.
Welspun Corp specializes in the manufacturing of large-diameter steel pipes designed for oil and gas transportation projects. The enterprise maintains a business presence across more than 50 countries, alongside operations spanning building materials, infrastructure, and industrial solutions.
Production for this recent order will take place at the company's US subsidiary, Welspun Tubular LLC. Deliveries for the project are officially scheduled to take place during fiscal year 2029.
Following this contract win, Welspun's global order book has expanded to reach a record $5.25 billion.
"This major international contract highlights the growing convergence between the energy sector and digital infrastructure. As data centres face immense power demands, securing direct and reliable energy supplies via large-scale pipeline projects is becoming a critical priority for major technology operators. For manufacturers like Welspun Corp, leveraging local manufacturing through subsidiaries in key markets like the US provides a distinct strategic advantage in capturing high-value infrastructure projects and expanding their global order book." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
