The Higher Education Department of Kerala has sanctioned ₹45.68 crore for the development and maintenance of physical, human resource, and IT infrastructure in government colleges across the state. The announcement was made by Minister Roji M John on Tuesday through a social media update.
The allocated funds are earmarked for various institutional development projects, which include the construction of new buildings, academic blocks, administrative centres, and IT facilities. According to the administration, these initiatives are designed to transform government-run institutions into student-friendly centres of higher education.
A significant portion of the capital has been distributed among specific institutions across different districts. Kesari Government Arts and Science College at North Paravur in Ernakulam has been granted ₹13.48 crore for constructing a new administrative centre. Meanwhile, Maharaja's College has received an allocation of ₹5.60 crore specifically designated for hostel and mess buildings.
Additional allotments include ₹4.81 crore for constructing a library and research block at Government College in Kariavattom, and ₹2.42 crore for infrastructure development at Government Brennen College of Teachers' Education. Government Arts and Science College, Karunagappally, has been sanctioned ₹1.29 crore for an academic block and a compound wall.
Other institutions benefiting from this financial rollout include Government College in Madappally, Vadakara, which will receive ₹1.34 crore for a new arts block, and Government College, Munnar, which has been earmarked ₹1.98 crore for a compound wall. Furthermore, smaller allocations comprise ₹1.27 crore for K K T M Government College, ₹99.68 lakh for E K N M College in Elerithattu, and ₹98.35 lakh for Tholannur Government College, alongside other regional projects.
The state government stated that these infrastructure upgrades are intended to provide students with a better learning environment, enhance research and innovation opportunities, and improve overall teaching standards.
Following the announcement, Minister John directed the Director of Collegiate Education to expedite follow-up procedures without delay and ensure that construction works commence at the earliest. The administration indicated that it will continue its efforts to strengthen the state's higher education sector through the comprehensive development of government-operated colleges.
