MakeMyTrip has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-based shared mobility platform Quick Ride for an undisclosed sum. The strategic move marks MakeMyTrip's entry into the ride-pooling segment, complementing its existing ground transportation portfolio.

Travel services major MakeMyTrip announced on Friday that it has acquired a majority stake in Quick Ride, a technology-led shared mobility platform, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction allows MakeMyTrip to establish a presence in the ride-pooling and shared mobility segment, aligning with its broader ground transportation portfolio.

Headquartered in Bengaluru, Quick Ride operates an asset-light, technology-driven platform that connects commuters travelling along similar routes to facilitate affordable ride pooling for everyday travel.

As part of the transaction, the Quick Ride brand and its ride-pooling business underwent an internal restructuring. These operations are now housed under a newly formed entity named Co Ride Mobility Private Limited, in which MakeMyTrip holds a majority stake. Quick Ride's original promoters will continue to lead the business. Meanwhile, the platform's erstwhile electric vehicle (EV) taxi business remains with the predecessor entity, iDisha Info Labs Private Limited.

Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of MakeMyTrip, commented on the development: "As part of our expansion strategy, we have pursued selective strategic partnerships, investments and acquisitions that complement and strengthen our existing business and expand the breadth and depth of our offerings. Ride pooling gives us a presence in high-frequency daily commutes within cities, as well as intercity travel."

Magow added that Quick Ride will be integrated under the company's ground transport business. MakeMyTrip intends to apply operational learnings gained from building redBus in domestic and international markets to help scale the ride-pooling platform.

KNM Rao, Founder and CEO of Quick Ride, stated: "Becoming part of the MakeMyTrip group is an important milestone for our team and for the community of users who have placed their trust in us. We look forward to drawing on MakeMyTrip’s reach and experience in travel to further scale the business."

This acquisition follows a series of recent investments and buyouts by MakeMyTrip across various travel and mobility segments. Previous transactions include the acquisition of car rental service Savaari, corporate travel and expense management platform Happay, and regional group holiday package provider Flamingo Transworld, alongside a strategic minority investment in visa processing platform Atlys.

"MakeMyTrip's acquisition of a majority stake in Quick Ride highlights a strategic shift toward capturing high-frequency everyday commutes alongside traditional intercity travel. By integrating ride-pooling into its existing ground transport portfolio, the company is positioning itself to leverage operational synergies, similar to its past scaling of redBus. For horizontal travel platforms, expanding into shared mobility offers a practical avenue to increase user engagement and diversify revenue streams across urban and regional transport markets." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
