HDFC Bank shares extended their winning streak to four sessions on Friday, lifting the lender’s market capitalisation above the ₹12 lakh crore mark. The stock rose 2.47 per cent to reach ₹778.80 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) by 12:42 pm, adding ₹18.80 over its previous close of ₹760.00.
This latest gain builds on a four-session rally that has driven the stock up by 16.39 per cent from its 52-week low of ₹669.20, which was recorded nine days prior. During Friday's session, the stock opened at ₹764.40, reached an intraday high of ₹779.10, and remained above ₹754.05.
The price appreciation pushed HDFC Bank's total market capitalisation to ₹12,02,030.53 crore. Market activity showed a surge in traded volume, reaching 430.79 lakh shares with a total value of ₹3,313.69 crore, marking the highest single-session turnover of the week. The deliverable quantity stood at 61.88 per cent.
Order flow data indicated an easing of the sell-side dominance seen in previous sessions. Sellers accounted for 68.84 per cent against buyers at 31.16 per cent, representing an improvement from the 85.79 per cent sell ratio recorded on Thursday. The stock's price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio expanded to 14.64, with the adjusted figure at 14.43.
Sectoral support came from Bank Nifty, which opened near 57,813 and traded at 57,773, staying above its 200-day exponential moving average (EMA) after breaking out of a four-week consolidation range. Analysts noted resistance levels at 58,000–58,290 and support at 57,250–56,900.
Over the one-week period, HDFC Bank shares recorded a return of 12.43 per cent, compared to the Nifty 50's 7.13 per cent gain. Meanwhile, the bank's year-to-date losses have narrowed to 21.41 per cent, improving from the 31 per cent range observed the previous week.
"The recent recovery in HDFC Bank's stock price and its return above the ₹12-lakh-crore market capitalisation threshold reflects improving sentiment in the banking sector. While the stock has narrowed its year-to-date losses, the easing of sell-side pressure and higher trading volumes indicate renewed market participation. Investors should continue to monitor broader sectoral trends and technical resistance levels before making deployment decisions." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
