The Ministry of Civil Aviation has officially accorded site clearance for the development of proposed greenfield airports at Kuppam and Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.
According to official sources, the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation (APADCL) is currently in the process of calling for Requests for Proposals (RFP) for the development of these two airport projects.
The State Government had previously submitted proposed locations for new airports at Amaravati, Kuppam, and Srikakulam to the Union Ministry as part of a broader plan to expand airport infrastructure across the state. In addition to these, the state government had also sent proposals for developing airports at Amaravati, Anantapur, Ongole, Dagadarti, Nagarjuna Sagar, Tuni, and Tadepalli Gudem.
As per the submitted master plans, the proposed investment for the Srikakulam airport is pegged at ₹750 crore in the first phase. The project is planned to span approximately 1,100 acres, with a targeted completion date of 2030.
Meanwhile, the Kuppam airport, situated in the constituency of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is slated to come up across 1,200 acres. The estimated investment for the Kuppam project stands at ₹1,700 crore, based on the submitted master plans.
"The site clearance for the greenfield airports in Kuppam and Srikakulam marks an important step toward strengthening regional infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh. With capital outlays of ₹1,700 crore and ₹750 crore respectively, these long-term projects will significantly improve connectivity and logistics. As the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation moves forward with issuing Requests for Proposals, reliable execution and timely private sector participation will be critical to meeting the targeted 2030 completion timeline for these large-scale regional developments." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
