NEW DELHI: Cohance Lifesciences announced on Friday that regulatory authorities in Telangana have ordered a shutdown of operations at one of its key manufacturing facilities.
According to the company, the Telangana State Pollution Control Board issued the closure directive for the manufacturing site located in Suryapet. The regulatory action comes in the wake of an industrial accident at the facility, which tragically resulted in the death of an employee.
The company disclosed the development on Friday, confirming that manufacturing activities at the affected plant have been halted in compliance with the state board's order.
Industrial safety and environmental compliance remain critical parameters for manufacturing and life sciences operations across India. State pollution control boards and labor authorities regularly intervene in cases of fatal workplace accidents to review safety protocols, investigate root causes, and ensure that appropriate corrective measures are implemented before facilities are permitted to resume operations.
Cohance Lifesciences has not yet released additional details regarding the timeline for compliance or when operations at the Suryapet plant might be cleared to restart.
"Industrial accidents resulting in fatalities are severe incidents that demand immediate regulatory intervention and accountability. For manufacturing and life sciences companies, compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations is non-negotiable. Operational shutdowns ordered by pollution control boards highlight the critical need for robust safety protocols on the shop floor. Management must prioritize workforce safety alongside operational output to mitigate such business risks and ensure sustainable operations." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
