MUMBAI — The Nifty 50 index showed resilience during early trading hours, moving upward and shrugging off a broader sell-off seen in global markets. After dipping to an initial low of 24,388, the index staged a strong recovery to erase all losses. At the time of reporting, the Nifty was trading at 24,640, marking an increase of 0.42 per cent.
Market breadth remained slightly cautious, with the advances-declines ratio standing at 21:29. Analysts note that this ratio requires close monitoring; an increase in the number of declining stocks during the remainder of the session could cause the Nifty to relinquish its current gains.
Technical indicators suggest there remains some room for the index to rise further during the day. Immediate resistance is pegged around 24,730, a level that could be tested. Following this potential rise, market observers indicate there is a fair probability of a corrective dip toward 24,550. A break below this support level could trigger a sharper fall down to 24,300 and potentially lower.
Conversely, if the index manages to decisively breach the 24,730 resistance mark, a broader rally toward 25,200 could unfold in the coming weeks.
In the derivatives segment, the Nifty 50 November Futures contract was trading at 24,670, up 0.33 per cent. Immediate resistance for the futures contract stands at 24,700, followed by a stronger resistance level at 24,770. Given prevailing external factors, a break above 24,770 during the session is considered difficult. Consequently, a potential reversal near the 24,770 mark could pull the contract down toward 24,600 or 24,500 in upcoming sessions. If the contract manages to surpass 24,770, an extended rise toward the 24,880–24,900 range is possible.
Due to the convergence of key resistance levels and prevailing external market factors, market participants and traders have been advised to remain on the sidelines and stay out of the market for the day.
"When major indices approach crucial resistance zones while facing broader global headwinds, disciplined risk management becomes essential. As demonstrated by the current market setup, forcing trades near resistance levels without clear confirmation can expose portfolios to unnecessary downside risk. Staying on the sidelines during periods of uncertainty is often a prudent strategy for capital preservation." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
