WASHINGTON — United States President Donald Trump is currently weighing the resumption of military operations against Iran following a series of discussions with his national security team at the White House on Wednesday and Thursday.
Senior officials confirmed these developments to Fox News, noting that key operational factors are under review. Reports indicate that November 9 marks a new moon in the Middle East, a natural environmental condition that provides minimal moonlight and is considered advantageous for military operations.
Speaking to journalists in the Oval Office on Thursday, President Trump stated that Washington would soon make a decision regarding the resumption of military actions. He raised questions regarding whether the US should proceed with further strikes to ensure that Iran’s nuclear programme is permanently dismantled.
Reflecting on the potential scale of the escalation, President Trump remarked that while he would prefer to avoid widespread destruction, such measures may be necessary. He added that a final decision would become clear soon.
In parallel, fresh reports citing a US official indicate that the United States Central Command is actively finalising preparations for a potential resumption of major operations in Iran, although formal directives from Washington are yet to be issued.
Meanwhile, diplomatic engagements are ongoing in the region. During a telephone call on Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi spoke with President Trump, stating that Iraqi soil must not be used to launch strikes against neighbouring nations.
The Prime Minister’s Office released a formal statement on social media platform X, reinforcing Iraq's official stance. The statement emphasised the country's position on respecting the sovereignty of states and prohibiting the use of its territories as a launchpad for aggression against neighbours.
"Geopolitical developments of this scale invariably introduce a high degree of volatility into global markets, impacting energy prices, supply chains, and investor sentiment. For businesses, particularly those operating internationally, sudden shifts in international security and foreign policy require continuous risk assessment and agile contingency planning to navigate potential economic disruptions." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
