The Tamil Nadu government has formed the Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Commission, headed by the Chief Secretary. The new body aims to translate investment commitments into commercial projects and employment opportunities as the state pursues its goal of becoming a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036.

The Tamil Nadu government has constituted the Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Commission (TNIPC) to facilitate and accelerate investments into the state. Headed by the Chief Secretary, the Commission will place specific focus on attracting and converting investments linked to Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), alongside investments from people of Tamil origin living overseas.

According to the government order issued by the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, the initiative is designed to help the state translate investment commitments into actual projects, commercial operations, and employment opportunities within predictable timelines. This administrative step supports the state's broader economic ambition of achieving a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036.

The administrative framework of the newly formed Commission includes senior representation across key state portfolios. The Secretary to the Government in charge of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce will serve as the Member-Convener of the Commission. Additionally, Secretaries heading various vital departments—including Finance, MSME, Energy, Environment, IT and Digital Services, Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development, and Commercial Taxes—will act as members.

The panel further incorporates the Commissioners of Land Reforms and Land Administration, the Member-Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, and the Managing Director and CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu.

The establishment of the Commission follows the proposal originally outlined in the Governor’s Address, which was subsequently recommended by Guidance Tamil Nadu.

"The creation of a dedicated Investment Promotion Commission by the Tamil Nadu government is a strategic step toward improving ease of doing business and execution speed. By bringing key departments—such as MSME, Finance, and IT—under a single coordinated framework led by the Chief Secretary, the state is addressing a primary challenge in industrial growth: converting policy commitments into ground-level execution. This structured approach will provide greater predictability for businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs looking to scale operations within the region." — Dr. Shishir Gupta, Founder & CEO, StartupLanes
